Homeopathy for Thrush
Thrush is an uncomfortable infection that tends to affect women and breast-fed babies more than men.
What is thrush?
Thrush is a fungal (yeast infection) that can grow in your mouth, throat and other parts of your body. The symptoms set in when the infective fungus Candida Albicans, spreads outside the gut. In normal circumstances, Candida stays within the confines of the gut quite happily, but if that balance is disrupted, it results in infection.
Some medications such as antibiotics, birth control pills and corticosteroids increase the likelihood of infection, and it’s also more common in pregnancy - caused by hormonal changes.
Oral Thrush
Oral thrush appears as a growth that can look like cottage cheese with white, raised lesions on the tongue and cheeks. The condition can quickly become irritated and cause mouth pain and redness.
Babies with thrush can pass the infection to their mothers. Mothers (especially if they’re taking antibiotics) may also develop thrush infections around the breasts and nipples and transmit it to their babies.
When both mom and baby develop thrush, they should be treated for the condition at the same time to prevent an ongoing exchange of the infection.
Vaginal Thrush
Vaginal thrush can present with the following symptoms:
Vaginal itching
Discomfort during sex
Thick, white discharge resembling cottage cheese
Burning, itching and sensitivity of the vaginal area
If thrush - either oral or other - is an ongoing issue, it’s best to look at constitutional prescribing to address the underlying imbalances within the body that’s allowing it to reoccur. If, however, it is a rarer occurrence, these remedies can help treat it in the short-term.
